What are LED Grow Lights?
Grow Lights are specialized, full spectrum lights that are designed to aid in photosynthesis. Our Engineers have designed our own custom Grow Lights to use in our Rise Gardens.
In Personal Gardens and Garden Extensions (ie. the top levels in Double and Triple Family Gardens), the LED Grow Lights are ~12 inches from sprouting plants. In the bottom level of all Family Gardens, the LED Grow Lights are ~18 inches from sprouting plants. These varying growing heights mean that the intensity of light that the plants receive is different for each Garden.
Below, you’ll find information about light intensity in your Garden, and the amount of light that each plant type prefers.

How Much Light Does My Plant Need?
Remember that we have seven types of plants that our Plant Scientists have found to grow well in a Rise Garden:
- Little Greens
- Herbs
- Big Leafy Greens
- Fruiting plants
- Flowers
- Vining plants
- Root plants
Each of these plant types requires various light intensity, depending on the stage of growth that they are in. The following table is an estimate of which plant types require various amounts of light:

Day 30 |
Day 90 |
Day 120 |

Following that table, match your plants to your Garden based on the Light Intensity map shown above.
Note: plants will flourish under most high-intensity lighting conditions, and will always grow better if they receive more light. The highest intensity of Grow Light in your Garden is centered in the middle of each level.
How much electricity do Grow Lights consume?
Personal Garden = 30W
Single Family Garden = 70W
Double Family Garden = 130W
Triple Family Garden = 200W
Why are Grow Lights different colors?
Within the light spectrum, there are different wavelengths of light. When the lightwaves are moving fast, we see them as the color blue, when they are slow, we see them as red.
Plants use energy from the light photosynthesize! They prefer Blue light and Red light, as well as full-spectrum White light. This is why our Grow Lights are different colors.
Our customized LED Grow Lights are made up of 3 types of lights:
Red LED: 660 nm, 2.15V, 250mmA
Blue LED: 450nm, 3V/120A, view angel 130 deg
White LED: 4000K, 3.1V 60mA
LED Grow Lights Troubleshooting
If your Grow Lights are having some problems, here are some things that you should check right away:
- Verify that each of the plugs for the LED Grow Lights are plugged in completely to the control board (you should hear a click when they are securely plugged in)***
- Verify that the plug for your water-level sensor is plugged in the right direction (with the sticker-side facing the water tank)***
If those don't seem to work, please contact our Support Team immediately by emailing support@risegardens.com. Be sure to include your answers to the following questions:
- Does the issue happen all the time, or only when you push the dim button on your Garden?
- Is it a rapid flicker, or every few seconds?
- Is it the whole light panel or just one half?
- Is this issue on the left side or the right side of the light shelf?
- Does the issue occur when plugged into any of the light ports, or only when plugged into a specific port on the control board?***
- If you unplug the water-level sensor, do your LED Grow Lights (along with all of the other electronic components of your Garden) then function correctly?***
- What, if any, activities occurred around the time that this occurred (i.e. any plant harvesting, Care, cleaning, etc.)?
- Are any of your plants resting against the Garden's light panels?
- Please provide a picture of your control board's current setup
- Please provide a picture or video of the affected LED Grow Lights, showing the issue in question
***When checking the connections in your Garden's electronics, you must first unplug the Garden from power to protect the integrity of the Garden's electronics.
