Are Rise Gardens safe for my pets?

June 21 2022 9:52am

In a safe environment, your pets and your plants in your Rise Garden should be able to coexist happily. Here is what we currently know about how garden plants interact with pets:

"Nightshade" plant leaves can be toxic to animals.

This includes: Tomatoes, Peppers, and Eggplants. Their leaves contain small amounts of solanine, which is a toxic (not poisonous) chemical.

Expected behavior after consumption: vomiting

How can I prevent my pet from getting sick from the plants in my Garden?

Option #1: Keep your Garden in a safe, hard-to-reach area of your home that doesn't entice your pet to eat your plants

Option #2: Only grow plants that you know are safe for your pet in your Garden

Our Plant Scientists are still working on researching these topics further. Upcoming research topics include:

  • Are there other gardening plants that are toxic to pets?
  • Are there any plants that will cause death in small animals?

Please stay tuned for more updates soon!
