Germinating Pods in Your Nursery
July 18 2024 6:38pm • Est. Read Time: 2 MINTo germinate well, seeds will need to be in a warm, humid environment. Our Nursery provides the perfect place so your seeds can grow big and strong in the early stages of life, ensuring a successful growth journey. Follow along to start your germination journey:
Adding Pods to the Nursery: The pods must be placed in the Nursery for germination to start. Once the pods have been placed in the Nursery, this must be reflected in the Rise Gardens App. For more information, please visit our article: HERE. (Note: Foil sticker must remain on throughout the entire growth journey).
Adding Water to the Nursery: The Nursery must be filled with cold tap water up to the nursery’s ledge (see below). Adding water past the ledge will drown the seeds. The soil in the plant pod will suck up water from the bottom of your Nursery to deliver it to the seed. This sponge-like structure leaves the perfect amount of moisture and air for the roots to grow into.
Closing the Nursery: After the water has been added to the Nursery, we must close the Nursery with the Nursery Dome (see below). The Nursery Dome must stay on at all times. The water in the Nursery must be changed every 7 days to ensure to avoid algae buildup. The Nursery must be placed under the Garden lights and receive 16 hours of light to ensure successful germination.
Pods Germinate in Nursery: Within 1-2 weeks the pods in your Nursery will sprout. It will first grow, its first set of leaves called the “Cotyledons”. The second pair of leaves are grown using water and sunlight, and it can start consuming nutrients (examples below). This is when you can move it to your Garden! (Note: Some pods may germinate sooner or later than the specified timeline in the sticker)
NOTE: Once the pods have been transferred into the Garden, we recommend that you sterilize your Nursery by either soaking it in vinegar or washing the bottom part of your Nursery in your dishwasher (on the top rack). This will ensure it removes an algae or mold. Please do not wash the Nursery lid in your dishwasher, it will melt.
